Community Asset Transfer of Shore Street Car Park – On Hold
Update – 19th September 2019
In June the ACC submitted a Community Asset Transfer request to The Highland Council for the Car Park on Shore Street. ACC submitted this asset transfer to see if The Highland Council were willing to sell the land, and at what price. Based on this information, the ACC would then undertake a full feasibility study, and any decision of land purchase would then be put to an ACC Members vote at an AGM or EGM.
The ACC board are interested in acquiring this area on behalf of the community because it adjoins the public toilets and the filling station (both owned by ACC), so would allow for the future maintenance, servicing and upgrading of these assets. The board have considered options to upgrade the public toilets within an enlarged building that could also include office and retail space.
This idea was first put to our members at the 2018 AGM, and has featured in our newsletter, however since the asset transfer request was submitted it has become apparent that some in the community were unaware of the proposal, and some concerns have also been expressed as to how the proposal might affect local businesses.
Because of this ACC have asked for this application to be put on hold whilst we undertake further consultation within the community. The ACC would like to provide more information and discuss this proposal at a public meeting to be advertised locally.
ACC have since had discussed the project at our EGM (29th August) and at the Community Council meeting (10th September).
ACC has decided to put this project on hold for 6 months. During this time, ACC will undertake a community survey to ascertain the views and concerns of the wider community.
See the Highland Council CAT webpage for further details on the ACC asset transfer request.
