Community Housing Project
The Applecross Community Company (ACC) aims to purchase land to create affordable homes and business units which would benefit the wider community of Applecross.
Applecross is a small, rural community of 225 residents in beautiful Wester Ross. Most of the land on the Applecross Peninsula is owned by the Applecross Trust, and there is now an opportunity to acquire land for community housing.
The community and the Applecross Trust have recently established the “Applecross Forum”, a discussion platform open to all community members and key stakeholders. Following this, Applecross has undertaken a community-led Community Land Use Plan project in 2019 to identify possible sites for future development. This holistic, place-based approach to planning in Applecross has enabled the community and the landowner to identify three potential sites for community development.
The three sites are all owned by the Applecross Trust, who are supportive of the projects and have given their approval in principle for the transfer of the land. The sites are:
- Front of hydro field
- Smiddy Wood
ACC are undertaking a feasibility study on the three sites in Applecross. This will allow ACC to get as much information as possible about the assets, which will help the community decide which site is the most appropriate, and whether to proceed with the project.
Applecross Community Company wish to commission a consultant/team of consultants with knowledge and experience of housing design in a rural setting.
